It is primarily for information pertaining to the SELF surname, more particularly for descendants of John J. and Lydia Avaline Waters Self, who were married in Union County, GA in 1851. Barry Self is the SELF proclaimed family genealogist and historian, having spent over 20 years researching this Self line. BYERS, VERLIN JACK, JR., age 87, of Sweetwater,TN, passed away 11:00 p.m. Friday, January 17, 2014 at Sweetwater Hospital. He attended Vonore Full Gospel Church. Preceded in death by wife, Callie Byrum Byers; parents, Jack Gaston Byers and Dovie Self Byers; sisters, Gracie Chapman, Nettie Beavers, Emma Sue Byers, Dolly Lynn; brothers, Vernon Byers, Dewey Byers and Clarence Byers. Survivors: daughters, Mary Snowden, of Athens, Debra Ann Priest, Englewood, Misty Winkler, Tellico Plains, Glenda Sue Byers, of Sweetwater, Wanda Mae Boggess, Athens, Elisha Jane Hale, Cleveland; sons, Bobby Byers, Madisonville, Wayne Byers, Etowah, Ricky Byers, Greenback; 15 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; sisters, Mary Moses, Athens, Katie Davis, Coker Creek, Ruby Stanley, Dahlonega, GA, Alice Roberts, Tellico Plains, several nieces and nephews. Graveside service 4:00 p.m. Monday, Giles Cemetery, Rev. Jarvis Bivens officiating. Family and friends need to assemble by 3:15 p.m. Monday at Biereley-Hale Funeral Home, Tellico Plains for the procession to the cemetery.
