MEMORIAL SERVICE TO HONOR JOHN J. SELF SET FOR MARCH 13, 2010

Dear Self family member…

You are cordially invited to participate in a Memorial Service honoring our ancestors, John J. and Lydia Avaline Waters Self. The Memorial Service will be held Saturday, March 13, 2010 at the Giles-Roberts Cemetery at Rafter, in Tellico Plains, Monroe County, Tennessee. The service will begin at the cemetery at 11:00 a.m.
John J. Self died March 5, 1910. This memorial service will commemorate the 100th anniversary of his death. (I was hoping to have the service on March 6th, but circumstances necessitate it to be later.)

Those who wish to travel together to the cemetery should meet either at Biereley-Hale Funeral Home, 4650 Hwy. 411 Bypass, in Madisonville, by 10:00 a.m. or at the Hardees Restaurant in Tellico Plains, located at 127 Bank Street, Tellico Plains (which is on the left of Hwy. 68 as you get into Tellico Plains), no later than 10:30 a.m. We will leave Biereley-Hale Funeral Home in Madisonville at 10:00 a.m. and stop briefly to pick up anyone waiting at Hardees in Tellico Plains at 10:30 a.m. We will arrive at the cemetery just before 11:00 a.m. The service will be fairly brief. Time will also be spent looking at the graves of other relatives. Please bring a lawn chair if you will need seating and an umbrella, since we will have the service regardless of the weather (rain or shine). If it rains a lot, we may gather at a local church. We will cancel if it should snow. It will then be held on March 27. Please call to confirm before driving a long distance to attend.
We may return to Tellico Plains following the memorial service and stop at a restaurant in town for lunch if there is enough interest among those who attend.

Directions to the cemetery are provided in case anyone would rather meet us there. Take the Cherohala Skyway off Hwy. 68 in Tellico Plains and go toward the mountains. Turn left onto Hwy. 360 and cross the Tellico River bridge, just out of town. Turn right at the gas station just after crossing the river bridge. This is the road to Rafter. Travel approximately 9 miles. You will come to the Rafter Fire Hall and Community Center. Turn right at the fire hall. The drive into the cemetery is the first road to the left. It is a short road and there is limited parking. Some of us may have to park at the fire hall and walk the short distance to the cemetery. It is not a long walk.

Please R.S.V.P. by March 5, 2010 to let me know if you are planning to attend the memorial service. You may call to Ph. 423-420-9253 or e-mail me at biereleyhalefh@compfxnet.com

I look forward to seeing you Saturday, March 13, 2010.
