MARK A. LINTON OBITUARY
Linton, Mark A., age 81, of Tellico Plains,Tennessee went to be with the Lord at 8:40 P.M. Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at U.T. Medical Center. Born to the union of Edward O. & Violet Engle Linton in Cleveland, Ohio on January 10, 1931. A veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served during the Korean War as a high speed Morse code communications specialist. Also held a pilot’s license for single & multi-engine planes, with instrument rating. These skills he later used in civilian life as a pilot and an air traffic controller. A Christian and long time member of the Religious Society of Friends (Quaker). An Elder, Sunday School teacher & sang baritone in the choir. Served on the Pearl, MS auxiliary Police force, the Rafter Volunteer Fire Dept. and as a ham radio operator for severe weather alerts for Monroe County, TN. As a devoted husband, father, friend & cook, Mark was always thinking of how to help and make the lives of others easier and more enjoyable. Many vacations and memories were shared with family and friends. Survivors, wife of 47 years, Lucile Hunt Linton, Son & daughter-in-law, Steven D. & Linda Wayman, Daughters & sons-in-law, Janice & Dennis Calhoun, Lynette & Mike Atkinson, 11 grandchildren & 23 great-grandchildren, Brother & sisters-in-law, John & Stella Linton, Ellen Harrison, Many nieces, nephews & friends. Preceded in death by parents, son-in-law, Robert Smith, great-granddaughter, Makenzie Wayman. Funeral 2 P.M. Saturday, December 29, 2012 at Friends Meeting of Ballplay Church, Rev. Scott Knight officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Family will receive friends 1-2 P.M. at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Linton Youth Fund, Friendsville Quarterly Meeting. Arrangements by Biereley-Hale Funeral Home, Madisonville, TN.
