It is primarily for information pertaining to the SELF surname, more particularly for descendants of John J. and Lydia Avaline Waters Self, who were married in Union County, GA in 1851. Barry Self is the SELF proclaimed family genealogist and historian, having spent over 20 years researching this Self line. PICTURE GALLERY 6 FOR "MOUNTAIN MEMORIES


The photo featured in this picture gallery is of Will and Mae Self and their son, Arnold Self. They are pictured on the small porch of a shanty they once lived in while Will worked for the Babcock Lumber Company in Tellico Plains, TN. Mildred Thomas wrote about shanty cars in "Mountain Memories" on pages 14 and 16. A shanty by definition is a small, shabby dwelling or hut.
