VAN LOWRY SELF OBITUARY

Van Lowry Self, 96, died Saturday, April 28, 2007, at the Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo, Mississippi after a long illness. He was born April 10, 1911, in Tellico Plains, Tenn. He was a retired shipping and receiving employee for U.S. Steel. He attended Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today (April 30) at Baldwin, Nowell & Clark Funeral Home Chapel in Pontotoc with Bro. Fred Hartley officiating. Burial will be in Pontotoc Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include one son, Dale Self (Donna) of Marion, III.; one stepdaughter, Annette Rusoe (Clinton) of Tupelo; six grandchildren, Lori Nystrom, Michelle Matthew, Douglas Self, Tommy Horton, Eugene Horton and Shelia Cooper; seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Brakefield, and 5 brothers and a sister. He was the oldest living direct descendant of John J. and Lydia Avaline Waters Self.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today.
