OBITUARY FOR MAUDIE WEAR, DESCENDANT OF SYLVANIA SELF VEAL

Maudie Lee Wear, age 93, widow of Glen Wear, of Kingwood, Texas, formerly of Madisonville, TN, passed away September 22, 2007 in Kingwood, Texas. Daughter of the late Sam & Mollie Lovin, born in the Rafter community of Tellico Plains, TN on October 12, 1913. Survivors, daughter & son-in-law, Orlanda (Lani) & David Grant, Kingwood, Tx.; daughters-in-law, Charlotte Wear, Santa Paula, Calif., Rosemary Wear, Lompoc, Calif.; 13 grand-children; 33 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Edna Sanders, North Carolina; 2 nieces. Preceded in death by sons, Glen Reaford Wear & Daniel Edward Wear, sister, Burma Best, brother, Blake Lovin. Graveside memorial service & interment were 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2008 in Haven Hill Memorial Gardens, Rev. Stewart Grant (grandson) officiated. Arrangements by Biereley-Hale Funeral Home, Madisonville, TN.

Mrs. Wear was the maternal granddaughter of Sylvania Self Veal and Daniel Mose (D.M.) Veal.

COLEMAN REUNION SET

The bi-annual Coleman Reunion will be held in Vonore, Tennessee on Sunday, July 20 2008 at Ft. Loudoun State Historic Park. The park is located on Hwy. 360. Everyone is invited to attend. Bring a covered dish and join us after church (noon). Contact Barry Self for more information or directions.

BARBARA NICHOLS OBITUARY

Barbara Jean Nichols of Sweetwater, TN went to be with the Lord, June 20, 2008. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and mother-in-law. She will be remembered foremost for her strong Baptist faith and her love of family. She was a member of Gregory's Chapel Baptist Church. She was 68. Preceded in death by: father, Arnold Thompson; grandpar­ents who raised her, Matt and Lillie Thompson; and brother, Terry Bell. Survivors include: husband­ Caloway Nichols, who would have celebrated 50 years of marriage on Dec. 19, 2008; sons and daughters-in-law ­Darrin and Jill Nichols and Andy and Mandy Nichols; daughter and son-in-law ­Ennette and Anthony Martin; grandchildren- Adriane, Alesha, Abby, Connor and Lillie Nichols; mother, Marjorie Bell; sister and brother-in-law­ Clarice and Bobby McJunkins; brothers-Les, Mike, Chris and Jeff Bell; sisters-Pat Spaetti, Marilyn Wattenbarger and Carol Bell; numerous nieces and nephews. The family received friends from 5-7 p.m., Saturday, June 21 at Loudon Funeral Home, and the funeral followed. Burial was 3 p.m., Sunday, at East Sweetwater Freewill Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Gideons International or Gregory's Chapel Baptist Church, 144 County Road 325, Sweetwater, TN 37874. Barbara Nichols was the wife of Rev. Caloway Nichols. Caloway was the son of Wesley Nichols, son of Bartley Richard Nichols. Bartley Richard Nichols was also the father of Mary Nichols Self, wife of William Emery Self.

ROY WALKER OBITUARY

WALKER, ROY L., age 79, of Tellico Plains, TN, went to be with the Lord 2:45 p.m. Saturday, June 14, 2008. He was of the Baptist faith. Preceded in death by grandson Michael Fain; mother Viola McKenzie; brother Gale Hawkins. Survivors: wife of 59 years, Mary D. Walker; daughters
and sons-in-law, Virginia (Gen) Underwood and Homer Underwood, Martha Lou and Harry Fain; son, Charles Walker, all of Tellico Plains; grandsons, Jamie Underwood and wife Ashley, of
Sweetwater, Zachary Taylor, Tellico Plains; great-granddaughter, Elexus Fain, Fla.; sister and brother-in-law, Arlene and Cecil McLemore, Ohio; brother and sister-in-law, James (Jim) and Emma Lee Walker, Tellico Plains; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Marie and Roy Self,
Madisonville, Evelyn Ervin, Lester and Charlotte Miller, Fred Davis, all of Tellico Plains, Betty Miller, Vonore, Lillian Miller, Madisonville; several nieces and nephews. Funeral was 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, Juen 17, in Biereley-Hale Chapel. Rev. Andrew Moser, Rev. Ransom Stiles officiating. Interment was 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, in Citico Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Biereley-Hale Funeral Home, Madisonville, TN.

Roy Walker was the husband of Mary Dovie Miller Walker. Mary was the daughter of Ernest S. Miller, who was the son of Dovie S. Self Miller and Sam Miller. Dovie S. Self Miller was the daughter of John J. Self.

SUSIE M. O'NEIL OBITUARY

Suzie M. O'Neil of Tucson, Ariz., passed away Sunday, June 1, 2008. She was a daughter of Clabe and Martha Howard Arp. She was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge #73 and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She was 85. Preceded in death by: husband, Robert O'Neil; brother, Bennie Wade Schubert; sister-in-law, Catherine Schubert; and stepbrother, Jessie Stamie. She was 85. Survivors include: her children and spouses-James and June Coleman of Waynesville, Ohio; Twyla Coleman of Tucson; and Rita Coleman and friend, Frank Baxley of Xenia, Ohio; brother-Bert Shubert of Dayton, Ohio; sister and brother-in-Iaw-Mary and Beecher Bryant; Grandchildren and spouses-Tammy and Will Barker, Samantha and Tanner Thompson, Nathaniel McKowen, Cindi and Jimmy Hogan, Jeff and Janet Allen and Tom and Tracy Allen; great-granddaughters and spouses-Kriste and Andy Dye, Kimberly Barker and April and Chad Orr; great-great-grandson-Landon Dye; great-great-granddaughters-Ally, Katelynn, Becky, Rachel, Tabitha Lynn and Terra Lynn; and all of the adopted Tucson grandchildren; good friend-Sis Benbow; and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Monday, June 9, at Newcomer Funeral Home, Kettering, Ohio, with her son, James Coleman officiating. Interment was at Woodland Cemetery in Dayton, Ohio. Susie M. O’Neil was the former wife of Robert Glen Coleman, son of Vesta Coleman. Vesta was the daughter of Jessie Coleman and Laura Self Coleman. Laura Self Coleman was the daughter of John Simpson Self and Mary Ann Tucker Self.

Since the season of "Decoration Days" at the church cemeteries is about to come to an end for another year, I thought I would share another picture I had on file from days gone by. The picture above was taken at Citico Cemetery in Monroe County, TN. I am guessing it was taken in the early 1970's or late 1960's maybe. Brothers Roley Self,at left, and Emery Self, on the right are shown standing in the Citico Cemetery. They were sons of Rev. Cicero and Mosurie Self.
