PHOTO OF CHARLES SELF AND SON RAYMOND SELF


Charles R. Self, age 88, of Maryville, Tennessee passed away this past Tuesday. The photo above was one I took of him and his son, Raymond at the annual Self Family Reunion in Maryville, Tennessee this past September. "Charlie" was the son of John Simpson Self and Julie Annis Bowers Self. He will be buried tomorrow at Red Top Cemetery (Chilhowee Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery) in Blount County, Tennessee with full military honors. Sympathy is extended to the Self family.

CHARLES R. SELF OBITUARY

Charles R. Self, age 88 of Maryville, passed away Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at Morningview Transitional Care. He was a member of Morning Star Baptist Church and a U.S. Army veteran serving during World War II in the Pacific Theater where he was decorated with a Bronze Star serving under General Douglas McArthur. Preceded in death by wife, Gussie Mae Self; daughter Joyce Self; sisters, Ruth Bryant, Bonnie Rogers, Ella McClemore, Bertha and Angie Self; brothers, Bluford, Sanford, Austin and Douglas Self. Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law Raymond and Sue Self of Sevierville, Howard and Sylvia Click of Louisville; son, James Chandler of Greenback, daughters, Lorane Potter of Blount County and Shirley Huskey of Virginia; grandchildren, Greg Self , Roxanne Shellabarger, Trista Davis, Heather Suess, Nicole Cole, Karrie Whitehead, Stacie Hill, Tony Potter and Quinton Potter. 16 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; brother J.S. Self of Rockford; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 7:00 p.m. Friday February 18, 2011 at Morning Star Baptist Church with Rev. Shane Bryson officiating. Family and friends will meet 3:00 p.m. Saturday at Chilhowee Primitive Baptist Cemetery (Redtop) for the interment with full military honors. A STAR IS BORN !


I received this photo and little note recently from cousin Duane Hill. He writes "The Self musical talent skipped me...but, hey...take heart...my granddaughter Olivia is destined for the Grand Ole Opry!!!!" I believe he is right. Olivia may be the next Dolly Parton.
