The photo above is supposedly of one of the trains that was used in the "Babcock Days" in the mountains of Tellico Plains and surrounding areas to transport logs and men. Mildred Thomas wrote about the trains on pages 14 thru 16 and page 20 of "Mountain Memories". It is not known which particular train is in this photo. I do not know the identity of any of the men pictured either. Just think of "old 97".
PICTURE GALLERY 6 FOR "MOUNTAIN MEMORIES
The photo featured in this picture gallery is of Will and Mae Self and their son, Arnold Self. They are pictured on the small porch of a shanty they once lived in while Will worked for the Babcock Lumber Company in Tellico Plains, TN. Mildred Thomas wrote about shanty cars in "Mountain Memories" on pages 14 and 16. A shanty by definition is a small, shabby dwelling or hut.

PICTURE GALLERY 4 FOR "MOUNTAIN MEMORIES"
The first picture shown in this gallery is of the Harvey Hartness family. Mildred Thomas wrote about this family in "Mountain Memories" on pages 11 and 12. This is Harvey and Louisa Self Hartness and children Ada, Sherman, McKinley and Arthur. Daughter Mary is not shown in the picture. Her face was cut out of the picture and used to put in a locket. The second picture is supposedly of Louisa Self Hartness and apparently Harvey too, with sons Sherman, McKinley and Arthur standing left to right in the background.
